Arrest Made in Livingston Parish, Louisiana Hit-and-Run Crash that Killed Pedestrian on LA 447

Livingston Parish, LA - Louisiana State Police Troopers have arrested 69-year-old Joseph J. Casselberry Jr. of St. Amant in connection with the hit-and-run crash Wednesday night July 10, 2024 that claimed the life of 30-year-old Deasha Doucet of Denham Springs.

Through investigative means, troopers identified Casselberry as the driver of a 2017 Chevrolet pickup that struck Doucet. On Thursday, July 11, 2024, Casselberry was placed under arrest and ultimately booked into the Livingston Parish Correctional Center on the charge of Hit-and-Run Driving Resulting in Death or Injury.

This crash remains under investigation.

Denham Springs – Shortly before 10:00 p.m. last night, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on LA 447 near Andrews Road in Livingston Parish. The crash claimed the life of 30-year-old Deasha Doucet of Denham Springs.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Doucet was walking south on LA 447 near the center of the southbound lane. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling south on LA 447 in the southbound lane. For reasons still under investigation, the pickup struck Doucet and continued traveling south on LA 447. After the initial impact, Doucet was struck by a 2021 Kia K5. The driver of the Kia stopped to render assistance and report the crash. The driver of the pickup truck failed to stop and continued traveling south on LA 447. 

Doucet sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Kia, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was uninjured. 

Based on evidence collected on the scene, Troopers believe the pickup to be a full-size gray or silver Chevrolet pickup of unknown year. The Chevrolet will have damage to the front center portion of the vehicle. This crash remains under investigation and Troopers are working to identify the driver of the pickup truck.
