KENTUCKY STATE POLICE INVESTIGATES FATAL COLLISION IN HOPKINS COUNTY

MADISONVILLE, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) reports that on May 30, 2024, at approximately 4:59 p.m. (CT), the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department requested KSP Post 2 to investigate a fatal collision on KY 70 near Madisonville.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jacob C. Adams, 29, of Dawson Springs, KY was operating a 2009 International Dump Truck eastbound on KY 70. Justin R. Hilt, 38, of Dawson Springs, KY was operating a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on KY 70.

At approximately 3 miles west of Madisonville, the Volkswagen Jetta attempted to pass another vehicle traveling westbound. During this maneuver, the Volkswagen Jetta collided head-on with the dump truck.

Justin R. Hilt, 38, of Dawson Springs Ky was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.

The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Technician Trooper Hunter Combs. KSP was assisted on scene by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, Madisonville Fire Department, Richland Fire Department, Kentucky Emergency Management, and the Hopkins County coroner.
