Law Enforcement in Southeastern Kentucky dispatched to Possible Hostage Situation

HYDEN, KY - According to the Leslie County Sheriff’s Office: On Friday, January 13, 2023 at 7:30 A.M. Chief Deputy Jeremy Vega was dispatched to a business in downtown Hyden of a possible hostage situation.

Threats were made that the perpetrator would shoot any law enforcement officers that arrived.

It was also told that bombs where placed at certain locations.

However, through an extensive investigation by Chief Deputy Jeremy Vega and Sheriff Billy Collett along with Sheriff's Deputies, all these claims were proved to be false.

The investigating officers believe someone from out of state made these claims while watching the officers on the EarthCam.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, there have also been rumors of an active shooter in town which are false as well.

The Leslie County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that this situation is over and there is no threat to the public.

Chief Deputy Jeremy Vega was assisted on scene by Sheriff Billy Collett, Lieutenant Shane Wilson and Deputy James Begley.
